Triveni sangam is the confluence of faded rivers namely ganga, yamuna and saraswati. It is considered holy to take a dip in these waters. The water is clean only except around the edges. Here are boat rides available which can be booked in advance to avoid last minute rush. You will find a lot of people taking dip at the confluence and collecting water in pots. The sunset is beautiful here. It is a must visit place if you are in Allahabad. Sangam is one of the most holiest places in India where people come to wash away their sins. During Kumbh/Magh Mela, which occurs during End of December till Mid of January, the place is abuzz with lots of activities and its like a never ending party. You get to see and meet Sadhus (saints) who would otherwise be mostly invisible from daily life. There are Naga sadhus (Nude sadhus) as well, but be careful in dealing with them and pay respect. Naga sadhus can be very notorious sometimes if you show disrespect.Please note that Kumbh mela is based on Indian Calendar (Saka Calendar) and you need to check the dates for the year. Lots of opportunity to click photographs and memories to take back from here. You can also choose to stay in tents or hotels nearby to get the real taste of Magh Mela. Dont forget to visit bade Hanumanji temple when you are here. Take a ride in boat to go to up till sangam point (where three rivers meet). Boat person might ask for INR 2000-3000 seeing that you are a foreign traveller. Be aware of Pandits (Priests) offering to do prayers on your behalf. Always fix rate before availing any service. Real Pandits might ask for INR 2000/3000 for prayer.
Also, the place can become too crowded with millions pouring on Makar Sankranti day (14th January). So, be careful.
